Public Announcement – Project Kibble

Updated: 11/15/13

Card status: With Kibble! Congrats, and thanks to everyone who participated!

Those of you who are on Facebook might have noticed something recently – one of our comrades-in-arms, Alex Nicoll (though you probably know him as SirKibble) has wedding bells in the future. Although Kibble hasn’t been as active as he was in the early days of MYM, this is still a momentous occasion in MYM’s history. And he has invited us all to attend.

Now, let’s be realistic here – while the offer is greatly appreciated, most of us don’t live anywhere near close enough to actually attend, no matter how much we’d want to. HOWEVER. There is something we CAN do.

Through the power of the modern mail delivery system, we, MYM, as a community, can give Kibble the sendoff he deserves. Although this project is very much in-progress and will not kick off for the next few days at least as more names are added to the list, the end result will be: A single card, with the signatures and well wishes of everyone in MYM who wishes to participate.

A rough outline for this plan is as follows:

1) Get as many people involved as possible. When I say proper sendoff, I mean it! This phase will take place over the next few days.

2) Begin to organize a chain of senders and recipients, allowing for postage costs, sufficient trust between members, and most importantly, -TIME.- He’s getting married by the end of September, which SEEMS like a while, but time passes quickly.  I’ll try to manage the chain as best I can, but if anyone wants to help, it’d be welcome.

3) Start the ball rolling. Sundance has volunteered to be the one to pick up the card, but that may have to change depending on time/financial issues. The recipient of Sundance’s card will sign, send it on to the next person, and so on.

4) Manage the card’s travel across the country, and across the world. Participants will be expected to give updates when they receive the card, and certainly when they send it off. Please try to stay on top of this!

5) The last person to receive the card may or may not include it as part of a larger package to send it off to Kibble himself in time for the wedding, allowing for time restraints, and again, finances.

A general level of courtesy is expected when handling the card, of course, and remember: lots more people will be signing besides you, and there’s only so much room on the card. Try to negotiate with the person before/after you in the chain if any problems show up.

If you don’t know Kibble, or don’t want to share your address, or have financial issues, whatever the case, you don’t have to sign up. You can even have your name written in, if you so choose. This is meant to be a low-stress, fun way to say goodbye to someone who is, to many of us, an old friend, and I appreciate any way you can participate. A general list of participants can be found below, which in no way indicates the final chain (which will be worked out soon enough.) Thanks for hearing me out, and good luck, Kibble!

Sonic the Baron

Don’t forget to leave a comment if you’re interested, but not on the list! Please specify whether you’d like to be part of the chain, a write-in, or if you’re still considering. (Or if you’d like not to be involved, but there’s no list for that.)

Alright, folks, we have a -tentative- chain going on right now. Sundance is still getting the card, he’ll have it in the mail by Monday at the latest, and send it my way – from there, I’ll send it off to TWILT, and it continues from there. Everyone, double-check with your current partners and make sure I didn’t make any mistakes, such as forgetting someone or making a pairing that doesn’t work. Let me know before it becomes a problem. Revisions are still very possible during this phase.

There will be another card for the write-ins, to make sure everyone has enough room.

The Chain

Sundance -> Agi -> TWILT -> Silver -> Nate -> HR -> Dave -> Tirk -> Plorf -> Khold -> Wrk -> (Ocon?)* -> Emtee -> Kibble

Signing the card

VERY late update, sorry about that, but Sundance has purchased the card, sent it off, and we’re in the signing phase! The particular type of card that he got was one of those double-insert ones, so there’s technically -eight- pages, front and back. The very inner pages, 4 and 5 if you were to count in, are where the signatures are going. Page 6? This is where the more artistically-minded MYMers can put in their doodles, poetry, photography… whatever it is, as long as you’re being reasonable about space. You’ll know you’re in the right spot when you see the Yoshi on the bottom-left corner. Page 7 has been reserved for write-ins.

Final words

In order to speed the process along, stamps will be included in the envelope which is being sent around. It’s possible that you’ll need to buy your own envelope to send off the card. Please, don’t hold on to the card much longer than a day or two – it’s got a long way to go. I encourage you to take pictures of the card before you send it off, documenting its trip around the country. In case you’ve forgotten how to address an envelope (it happens, what with snail mail being entirely outdated,) here’s a Youtube video explaining the process.

  1. I’d very much like to be a part of this

  2. I can’t be a part of the chain, but if someone could write me in, it would be nice!

    • Same here. I’m a bit uncomfortable giving out my home address.

  3. Move me to write-in, and thanks for arranging this, Agi.

  4. Can someone do a write-in for me? I’d appreciate it!

  5. And thus, Plorf killed the best idea created by the MYM community in a very long time.

    Good game.

  6. Let it be known that Plorf is too incompetent/stupid to send a single letter.

  7. Annnnd Kibble got the letter. Nice job everyone; proud of everyone that was a part of this letter chain!

  8. Took a lot longer than it should have but I’m really glad we finally got the letter to him.
