MYM 25 Jamcons

Jamcon #1 (March 2022)

Nino

Alternate
– The most literal interpretation of “alternate” is an alternate version or copy of an existing character. For example, Saber Alter is a Lawful Evil version of the Lawful Good Saber.

– You can also do the reverse: the original version of a character with an alternate form!

– Fictional characters who serve as an alternate version of a real person or popular fictional character can count. For instance, just about any Servant in the Fate universe, any incarnation of Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood and so on.

– You could make an “alternate” set for an existing character! Literally any character who has gotten a set in MYM qualifies for this, as in you’re doing an alternate take on a moveset for a character who already got one.

– Alternate realities – a character who comes from or dabbles in alternate realities. If you want to interpret alternate reality as a fantasy world like an anime or JRPG, then go for it.

– Alternate timelines.

– A character who has alternate identities or forms. A civilian with a superhero identity, like Clark Kent and Superman.

Downfall & Redemption
A set only needs to fit with one of these prompts, not both, so pick your poison. Or go wild and incorporate both into your set!

– Downfall could most directly reference a character’s fall from grace, such as how Walter White became Heisenberg during Breaking Bad.

– Downfall could also reference a character responsible for someone else’s downfall, such as a revolutionary like Tri-Brigade Ferrejit.

Downfall could reference someone affected by the downfall of something or someone else, like how Constance von Nuvelle is the last remaining member of House Nuvelle.

– A character who prevents a Downfall would qualify, such as Okabe‘s temporal mission to prevent World War 3.

– Downfall could also be a character who encapsulates the downfall of a series, such as galactic letdown Snoke.

– Downfall could also just be a character or mechanic who greatly enjoyings, well, falling down!

– Redemption can be seen as the opposite of a character’s downfall, like how Zuko has one of the most beloved redemption arcs in media.

– A character who constantly seeks Redemption, like a devout worshipper.

– A set can be Redemption for an older moveset, such as the more recent Kyoko set.

– A character who ‘delivers’ Redemption for others, like Madoka‘s wish to free other magical girls of their burden.

– A character who is considered beyond Redemption, such as Yoshikage Kira.

– This could even be as simple as a character who can Redeem a resource to some effect, like redeeming Gold to buy Swords.

– Make a set for a character from Red Dead Redemption!

Jamcon #3 (May 2022)

Miracle Matter

Reflect

– Reflect can be literal, with a character whose abilities have to do with mirrors or reflective surfaces, such as Hol Horse‘s partner, J Geil.

– The character can be a semi-literal reflection of another, either as a literal clone of or mimicking them, such as Dark Samus.

– A character whose story arc and theme exists to contrast and parallel another character’s, like heroes and villains who went through similar trauma or have a similar defining motivation but differed by a key aspect, such as Jecht to Tidus.

– The character might even be someone who tends to ‘reflect’ (or meditate) a lot- whether this be an ascetic character like Zenyatta or someone with a knack for self-narration right out of a noir film.

– It could also be a character with a mechanical focus on reflecting projectiles, generating mirrors to bank shots off of, and so on- The Baseball Boys being an example of a set with multiple reflectors and a focus on redirecting projectiles.

– It could be a vain character who surrounds themselves with mirrors or reflective surfaces, self-portraits, etc. The kind of character who would carry a hand mirror around constantly.

– Or just make a character from a game with ‘reflect’ or ‘mirror’ in the title. Or whose name is a palindrome.

Jamcon #4 (July 2022)

Kosaka Wakamo

Wild
– This can serve as your typical wild child character, raised in the woods or simply at one with nature, or even embodying an aspect of it like Lip from Panel de Pon.

– It could be someone evocative of the “Wild” West, your traditional gunslinger or a rider on horseback, like Hol Horse from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

– It can be a wild animal of sorts, from a fantastical creature to something more grounded, like Raptors, or even- A “Wild” Pokemon appears! (Too many examples to count)

– A character surviving in the wilderness or who is adept at traveling it would fit, such as Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn who received a set this very contest!

– You could submit a character with a strong inner rage or wilder side they let out under select circumstances, as big as a Jekyll and Hyde sort of transformation, or your typical D&D Barbarian- or someone like Wolf Witch Veronica.

– It could also refer to design or stereotype- a punk rocker with the attitude or someone with ‘wild’ hair like your typical shonen protagonist- take Yugi Moto from Yu-Gi-Oh! (or any of the series’ main protagonists) for an example of the latter.

– Or even a ‘wildcard’ character, someone whose allegiances are hard to predict until the cards are laid out on the table, like W from Arknights.

Jamcon #5 (August 2022)

King of Sorrow

2022
This one should explain itself: make a moveset for a character from something this year. Channel your newfound interests into a brand-new moveset!

– The purest form of this Jamcon is a character who made their debut this year. To give an example of a character from this contest, Chidori Michiru wasn’t revealed until Blue Archive’s Shinobi’s Heart event, which was revealed mid-April this year! New Pokemon and characters from Pokemon Legends: Arceus or Pokemon Scarlet and Violet would qualify, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, or the boys from Holostars.

– The character is present in a piece of media that got or will get released this year. This can be canon, a fan work or even a meme that originated this year. For instance: Morbius existed long before 2022, but his film was released early this year, so he qualifies. Likewise, Marvel’s Thor would qualify because of the Thor: Thunder and Love movie.

– It could be a piece of media that was re-released this year. For example, the Live-A-Live or Klonoa remakes! Ode Iou, The Sundown Kid and O. Dio would qualify for the Live-A-Live remake (somebody please make a set for another LAL villain).

– Likewise, an adaptation of an existing media qualifies, like an anime. The manga could have been released in 2017 or 2002, but got an anime this year.

– Media crossovers qualify. For example, Albert Wesker has been around since the first Resident Evil, but he was recently revealed as a new Killer for Dead by Daylight.

– It can be a character from piece of media that was revealed this year, even if it won’t be released this year.

– Game-wise, it could be a character who existed before 2022, but became playable this year. Kosaka Wakamo appeared in Blue Archive’s prologue story back in February 2021, but she didn’t become a playable character until 1 year later.

– An alternate version of an existing character qualifies. For instance, Paul Bunyan was released in Fate/Grand Order JP in 2017, but she got an alternate form in Super Bunyan in April this year!

– It could be an original character you made up this year!

– The character or media doesn’t have to have originated in 2022 – it could have ended in 2022.
